Dit is nogal stof om oor na te dink....
Die inleidende brief vra:
I'm
sure you've always noticed this. I'm speaking here about Christian religion
and it's offshoots, although I would say many New Agers have that glazed over
'look' and that almost irritating smile...but sometimes, when you go to a
church, either people will generally ignore you, be about as friendly as
expected, or seem to pay special attention to you and be uber-friendly
towards you. Of course that includes JW, Mormons.etc too.
What do you usually think when someone is like that? Are you cynical and think they just want to try to save your soul? Or do you think it's genuinely the Holy Spirit? Of course it would depend on the person, but do you tend to have a set reaction to excessive friendliness or interest in your life? On the flipside has anyone actually met someone who told them they'd go to hell outright? My sister said a couple of people at her university told her that. |

I
love being around super-friendly religious people. It's like walking through
big, fluffy, pink, cotton candy clouds, that talk to you...I don't like the
ones that tell you that you're going to rot in hell.

Religious People Are Super-Friendly
Run like he**, unless you are after some sport and wish to engage them for fun. |

Actually
it would depend on the context.
Sometimes I feel folks are just trying to be warm and inviting. Make someone who is new at the church feel welcome. All too often churchs have far too many members who treat their church as a closed club, where non members are not welcome. However, I also think sometimes there are alterior motives. My wife and I attended her childhood church one Sunday, just because she wanted to go back and check it out. As is usual, their ushers and deacons welcomed us, were friendly, etc... which is basically their job. Most just said hello but kept to themselves. Then there was the pastor, who was overly friendly, but also right away wanted to know what I did for a living. I felt like he was sizing up my wallet to determine if I was someone who could contribute large amounts to the plate every Sunday. |

Try
tell them you don't believe in what they believe not interested when they ask
you and see their mood change instantly

I've
had a few of the super friendly ones knock on my door to try to recruit me to
their church. The friendliness ends when I ask if their church welcomes same
sex couples.

It
really depends upon the person, Trimac. Some people really do radiate
friendliness, religious or not. Others are obviously gritting their teeth
whether they themselves know it or not, and just trying to "be good
because God is watching."

If
they appear fake, they probably are. It's pretty easy to tell when someone is
genuine.
